Why I’m Giving Away $60,000 Worth of Acting Training for Free

Because no ones dream should be stifled by lack of money

So it turns out… drama schools are expensive. Who knew? These are places where you’ll get to learn how to live truthfully under imaginary circumstances. Places where you’ll learn how to embody a compelling character. Places where you’ll do exercises like “Orgasm or Die” in front of your peers at 8:30 in the morning.

But I don’t believe that anything about this craft should be kept a secret or something only the rich can afford to be taught. Acting technique should be accessible to anyone who has the drive to learn and work at their craft. So if going to a conservatory is a dream, but an impossible one for you at the moment, let me take on that $60,000 bill so you don’t have to.

So What’s the Answer?

I recently got to thinking… What if I put out everything I learned in school in the exact order that it was taught to us? I’ll never say that it’s a true substitute, because there’s nothing like experiencing these lessons with a group of your peers under the eyes of a professional, but wouldn’t it be an amazing resource for actors who want to learn very niche techniques like animal or color work that are usually reserved for expensive schools? What about breaking down accent study or phonetics with specific resources? WHAT ABOUT ORGASM OR DIE?! (Okay, we might skip over that one…)

What Makes Me Qualified?

When I was studying in school, I took copious amounts of notes directly from all of the highly trained teachers. I held onto every book that was recommended. I kept every single pamphlet and worksheet that was given to us in class. Since graduating, I’ve worked in films both here in the US and abroad, various theatre shows, and voiceover. I’ve put and am still putting the techniques and business lessons I’ve learned to work, and while I’m no celebrity, I feel that I’ve gotten great value from them. This is why I’ve been scouring through these old Moleskin journals and writing both a podcast and YouTube show called “An Actor Prepares.” It’ll have actionable tools you can start using, talk about the powerful techniques taught by great teachers, as well as having all the business lessons and book recommendations that made me feel prepared for the real world once I graduated.

As I’ve said, these “secrets” of the craft should not be held tight. College is expensive, and no ones dream of learning how to be a better artist or do great work should depend on money. If I can help spread the wealth of knowledge that I’ve accumulated, we all get better in the process.
